The misconception is that many people think yoga is just stretching and hanging out. While stretching is definitely involved, yoga is really about creating a balance in the body through developing both strength and flexibility at the same time, and note to self: that’s not always easy! This is done through the performance of poses or postures, each of which has specific physical benefits. You will generally find two types of yoga. One format involves doing the poses quickly in succession, creating heat in the body through movement called vinyasa-style yoga. Another option is performed more slowly to increase stamina and perfect the alignment of each specific pose. The poses are a constant in all formats and varieties of yoga, but the approach to them varies depending on the tradition in which the teacher has trained. Just so you know-yoga is an ancient practice that was created over five thousand years ago in
As you’ve heard, yoga has many benefits for both the mind and the body. Yoga helps you stay active in other sports as you age; it also proves to be a beautiful compliment to most sports including running and biking. Here at Stellar Fitness we focus on a non-meditative style yoga that is suitable for all levels. Gina, our well trained and certified instructor, is outstanding and always prepared to lead a room with a variety of bodies from the beginner to the advanced! We also offer partner yoga one Saturday evening each month where we invite you and your significant other (or anyone else you love to spend time with) to share in the stretching and laughter that this partner work creates.
The bottom line is, if you thought yoga was ‘for the birds’, we invite you to do something new and strap on a pair of wings for an hour to come check it out. As always, we appreciate you registering for the class online ahead of time. If you have any questions, comments, thoughts, or concerns (even if you think it’s a ‘stupid question’), WE’RE HERE FOR YOU!! We hope to see you wrapped up in a pretzel real soon (wink, wink)!
